This week's work

Well this past weekend was very uplifting. Like I posted before, our volunteer day was a success, but our volunteer meeting for the GROUP (the specialized volunteer core) was not as successful. We have heard that people were interested, but they just didn’t show up for the meeting. Oh well, we try again and keep praying.

The rest of the weekend was great but tiring. I met some amazing people this weekend and was able to talk with them for hours as they (very respectfully) asked questions about my faith, where I worked, what I did at the UP, about my life, everything. It was so nice and refreshing to talk with new people about this stuff. It was equally as refreshing to question others and to listen to their stories, their walks in life and their walk in faith. It was quite an interesting evening. I loved it. I’m still beaming from this weekend.

Sunday came and I was back at the UP for church a the Open Door where we talked about the budget and what the Open Door should look like, what our mission and vision are for the church and how we wish to keep connected to people. It is nice to be apart of the planning, building, and growing of a church. There are so many mission oppertunities, and I am personaly excited to get people involved. Pittsburgh is in need of a volunteering community dedicated to helping their neighbors in the city.

I encourage you all to find places to volunteer in your own community. There are always organizations that are looking for people who are willing and able to help with little mundane tasks, all the way up to helping organize their financial records and doing taxes. Everyone’s strengths can be used and strengthened in volunteer work.

Well, its time to finish up my speech for the Union Project. There is still a lot of research to be done on how to engage the public and interest them in volunteering. I can only hope that this Blog will get you interested in volunteering in your own community.

With Love
In Him,
Reed
